Week 1 we worked on…
- Not hurting each other. Let’s try to stay in relationship, keep nose-to-ear connection, be gentle as we make big movements.
- A clear and powerful rock step. This is incredibly useful; it helps you regain timing when one or both of you is lost… as long as the leader clearly (and gently) pushes the follower back into her own rock step. You need to almost jump-jump to get the right feeling; it’s certainly not a flat step, that would not give you the needed punchiness.
- The basic pattern is “rock-step-leftside-pause-rightside-pause” on a “1-2-3-4-5-6″ count. I really like starting with a rock step, though it might seem easier to start with a side step. If anything, I will imagine taking the side steps and start with a rock step.
- Choreography: we did something like “3 rocksteps in close position (aka open embrace), 2 rocksteps in two-hand open position, overhead slide, free spin with messiness which helps us get lost, 3 rocksteps in close position, inside turn into cuddle position”
Week 2…
